The challenge: Reframe the everyday experiences of an average housewife in a way that feels compelling and culturally significant, using the visual language of classic cinema to elevate ordinary struggles into powerful narratives.

My solution: Inspired by iconic film posters, I developed a series of custom illustrations using Clip Studio Paint and Procreate, then refined them in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for a polished finish. I reinterpreted traditional movie poster typography, composition, and colour palettes to create dramatic, cinematic visuals that spotlight everyday realities.

Results: The final outcome is a cohesive poster series that transforms routine domestic experiences into bold, cinematic statements, demonstrating strong illustration skills, cross-platform workflow, and a thoughtful approach to storytelling through design.

Sketches

My process began with sketching three posters, each reflecting a different reality of an average housewife. I drew inspiration from Breakfast at Tiffany’s to represent house chores, Home Alone to depict the responsibility of caring for the entire family 24/7 during weekends and holidays, and Jaws to symbolize the intensity and inevitability of periods.

I then introduced colour, drawing inspiration from the original film posters to preserve their cinematic tone while adapting the palettes to support my reinterpretation of each theme.

Finally, I incorporated typography, using the original or closely matching typefaces to maintain the authenticity of the classic film aesthetic. I also adapted the titles to reflect my themes. For example, Breakfast at Tiffany’s became Housework at Tiffany’s, and Jaws was reinterpreted as The Shark Day.
